Sexual Health & STI’s

Therapy for people struggling with feelings around STI’s or have questions about their sexual health

Sexual health is considered as one of our four pillars of health: Physical, Mental, Spiritual and Sexual according to the WHO, but sadly there is still a lot of stigma and shame associated with STIs, and sexual health as a whole can feel like a very hush hush topic. Stigma is described by the Oxford Dictionary as:

“feelings of disapproval that people have about particular illnesses or ways of behaving”

Stigmas are created by our society and these attitudes can be extremely harmful to our mental health and wellbeing. I strongly believe that we can all play a part in destigmatising many aspects around sex and relationships, especially our knowledge of STI’s, their commonality and how we can ensure good, safe and consensual sex practices in our lives.

It is thought that nearly 70% of the world’s population has one of the Herpes Simplex Viruses (HSV 1 – commonly known as cold sores on and around your mouth. HSV 2 – sores typically around the genitals and anus) in their system. To most people, that figure is astounding! Yet herpes is one of the most misunderstood and stigmatised STIs there is out there. Herpes simplex virus (who.int).

Despite all the facts, catching an STI can bring up a plethora of emotions, which can be really helpful to discuss with a professional. I offer an empathetic and non-judgemental space for you to work through any feelings, thoughts and emotions around your sexual health. Don’t let stigma define who you are!
